Second call for interested parties for a News Story.
One defendant will be interviewed today by the news network and they would like some more people. I have also provided them some pretty good leads to follow-up with.
Again, the reporter stressed confidentiality in this matter.
The reporter is looking for specific types of John Does to talk to. Specifically those Does that are “Very” unlikely as to have been the ones to download/share the pornographic movie(s). We are talking the elderly, infirmed, blind, out of the country during the time, etc.
I also reminded them not forget about the average “Doe” in their report, and the fact that even if someone downloaded/shared a copyright protected movie, the “settlements” the trolls are extorting are excessive and unfair. Paying a Plaintiff/Troll $3400 for a $20-40 movie is a sad sick joke. What makes it really disgusting is the ways the Trolls use the fear of financial ruin and family/friend embarrassment to get people to settle.
I know the Trolls will claim that sharing via BitTorrent makes the damage to Plaintiff worse, but let’s be real. Speaking of “Real,” this isn’t an effort to stop piracy, it is a Troll business model designed to makes lots of money. Greed baby!
So if interested (or know of someone who may be), please send me an email (doerayme2011@hotmail.com). I will put you in contact with the reporter.
Cheers,
DietrollDie

I’m just a generic John Doe who happened to put up a fight (twice) and won.
If that’s interesting enough, I’d talk to a reporter.
I will forward your email to them.

DTD did it have anything to do with this…

Because using Randazza as a source really made my stomach turn.
Yeah, but as Prenda (Steele) and Siegel decline to comment (chicken-shit), that was all they could get. He does give the Does and Copyright Defense Lawyers some ammo. Making a statement that people don’t pay because they didn’t do it is GOLDEN.
“People don’t pay because they didn’t do it.” Marc Randazza, 2 Jul 12, NBC Bay Area news story.
It looks like his newest thing to bolster his image of being “fair,” is he is acting as defense attorney for some MA Doe in one of these cases. That also should show everyone how WEAK these cases are. He know these cases from the inside and can easily derail it and shut the whole operation down if he wants to. The Plaintiff for this case will dismiss this Doe and Marc will make money and be able to claim he fights for his client regardless of the situation. Playing both sides Marc???? I wonder how long it will take Prenda to copy them (and then screw it up).

Randazza said that he represented defendants in many cases before. I did not know that. Look at my Twitter exchange with him yesterday.
I think we’re probably getting that quote out of context. I’m sure what he meant was that people weren’t paying because they didn’t do it, but that they were paying because they were guilty.
I tend to agree with Anonymous. In my opinion, there is a much more revealing truth in MR’s words.
Randazza is either lying or he is absolutely clueless about technology. Even 1% (unrealistically low) translates to 3000 absolute innocents over past 2 years.
SJD, Unicorn Protection Front, board member.
I don’t think it is taken out of context one bit. Two reasons.
1. That is what the author states and Mr. Randazza has not tried to correct any errors.
2. Using MR’s logic, if he he truly believes only the guilty people pay, then the opposite must be true – only the innocent people don’t pay.
Can’t have it both ways
.
Reminds me of a scene from a great movie, Full Metal Jacket. “Anyone who runs is a VC. Anyone who stands still is a ‘well-disciplined’ VC.”

Its fun you mentioned Unicorns SJD….

Yeah the people they pursue are always guilty…
I have a draft email sitting on my account I want to send to the reporter, I was that annoyed seeing Randazza making statements and she blithely accepted them as fact and did no follow up.
Ha-ha! https://twitter.com/marcorandazza/status/220146671177314304
Classy.
Marc’s Twitter –

Interesting that they were referencing an old Ira Siegel case (Patrick Collins vs. Does 1-2590), which was dismissed last year. The video almost made it seem like Ira was still sending her letters.
Just watched it again. I must have been half asleep last night, when I watched it the first time.
SF Blog picked up the NBC story. http://blogs.sfweekly.com/thesnitch/2012/07/porn_industry_marc_randazza.php
Of course Marc had to say something.

“Mich Stoltz is a liar. I’m not sure how he claims to know what I care about or don’t care about, but his statement in this article is 100% false.”

Speaking of moderation, just had a long post of mine hit moderation on that story too
When they approve it, it should be fun…
This is the draft email I banged out in response… any comments?
Your recent article is factually lacking in regards to Marc Randazza.
“Randazza is not one of the attorneys involved in the suits”
While he likes to pretend he has not slipped to the level of Prenda (John Steele’s old firm with a new name), he is currently behind several copyright trolling cases.
Liberty Media Holdings is the company which owns Corbin Fisher, which is the porn brand Randazza represents. While several of the cases have been outsourced to smaller regional firms in places where he is not admitted to practice, they all originate from Mr. Randazza and a partnership with a German IP tracking firm.
I would get into the reasons why this “identification” is flawed, but its all been said during the days of the RIAA suing everyone they could.

A quick review shows that when questioned about closeted youth possibly hurting themselves when their parents got a letter about alleged file sharing his suggestion was that they lie to their parents and suggest it was from the Bi-Sexual line produced by the same company.
http://www.queerty.com/tag/marc-randazza/
There are innocent people sucked into these things, but then he complains about the quality of their filings.
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20110215/05093813105/woman-electrician-hits-back-liberty-media-asks-dismissal-p2p-shakedown-saying-she-never-downloaded-gay-porn.shtml
Mr. Randazza has stated that if you claim your innocent he would have no problem going door to door asking your neighbors if they downloaded the gay porn on your connection. As these cases thrive on their ability to embarrass people into paying extortion for actions they may not have taken, that seems like a threat.
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2011/08/open-wifi-and-copyright-liability-setting-record
And let us not forget the case tossed out of CA now moving forward in NY where Randazza is seeking money from the alleged infringer as well as his roommate for being negligent in not protecting LMH’s copyright. The EFF filed a brief in that case.
While he is a wonderful first amendment lawyer, he is also a copyright troll on the same level as Prenda.
http://www.techdirt.com/blog/?company=liberty+media
While “Down on the Farm” lacks the same punch as some of the more “interesting” titles being pursued across the country currently the stigma of gay porn being associated with you is just as damaging.
They stand to be awarded $150,000 a film, and yet many of the firms doing these shakedowns have yet to take a single named person to court.
Could the “evidence” be lacking? IP identification alone has even failed the FBI.

I suggest http://fightcopyrighttrolls.com/ and http://dietrolldie.com/ for more news about these types of cases.
And yes I am very biased against Mr. Randazza, but then I’ve spent time talking to teens and closeted adults considering drastic decisions when faced with his copyright trolling. Not everyone is a saint in the world, but I’ll take an alleged copyright infringer over someone putting lives at risk to make a buck every time.
I remain….

Sorry for the delay. I hate these crappy mobile devices.

It was way link heavy, I understand moderation but I thought I was beloved enough to slip by
There is no way to create a “whitelist,” WordPress.com is pretty rigid in this respect. There is a setting though where you control the number of links, above which a comment is held for moderation. On my site I set it to 50: spam filter does its job pretty well anyway.
BAH I HATE WAITING FOR MODERATION!
