Do these cases have a max life where no matter what the troll lawyer does, it can’t be exceeded? When a case is closed, can the troll ever re-sue for the same thing?
Yes. Copyright Infringement has a three year statute of limitation. That is three years past the date of alleged infringement for a single incident. For a majority of the Does, these cases do not go past the one year mark. The Troll strings the court along by claiming they are “negotiating” with the defendants and it is taking more time than expected. They also like to tell the court that the ISPs are slow or not complying with court orders to get more time. Usually by the one year mark, the troll will voluntarily dismiss all remaining defendants (without prejudice) and tell the court they are doing this in the interest of judicial efficiency. The Troll has meanwhile been collecting public IP addresses for new cases and is well along working on new Does. The sad cycle continues.

Thanks for the question. I think I may do a short podcast on the Copyright Law and these cases.

I wish I knew the Richard Pryor response before
Hi DTD I don’t want to post a bunch of my information to this but I received a subpoena today in the mail I am young, never been subpoenaed, and frankly don’t understand legal stuff at all. I am trying to figure out what to do next but this all seems like so much is there a private way to ask you questions about just my case?
